Have you seen the gorgeous healthy lifestyle magazine Whole Living? I call it Martha Stewart’s “new age” magazine, because it’s full of advice on healing and spiritual well-being. I love it.
Every year for their January issue, Whole Living publishes a delicious dietary detox plan known as the Action Plan, and for the last three years I’ve contributed recipes. The detox is meant to help readers recover from holiday indulgence, and set a blueprint for healthy eating throughout the year. This year’s January issue is now out on newsstands, and you can get my recipes in the Week 3 section of the detox.
I’m really excited about these recipes. They’re pared down for easy prep, but delicious and beautiful. I’m especially excited about the Banana-Apple Buckwheat Muffins. They’re fruity, fluffy, full of comforting buckwheat flavor — and gluten-free!
The Action Plan is also available online, along with all the recipes for the entire three-week cleanse, provided by myself along with Sarah Britton, who writes about food on her excellent blog My New Roots, and Sara Forte, author of the exceptional vegetarian cookbook The Sprouted Kitchen.
Sadly, this is the final issue of Whole Living. Like so many magazines in the past few years, they are shutting down for financial reasons. There are a lot of sad subscribers out there, including myself, and I wonder where I’ll be able to find such good writing, well-curated info, and healthy recipes in one place. Thank you Whole Living, you will be missed!
Hi Louisa, I’m terribly sad at the cancellation news as well! What a great magazine. It will be missed! Your recipes are all delicious… I might give the muffins a try tomorrow as a Sunday morning treat 🙂
Hey Radina,
Happy 2013! I know, WL is/was really special. Please let me know if you try the muffins, I would love to hear what you think.
Hi Louisa!
Just found your site and my mouth is watering! I had no idea you were the third piece of the puzzle, so cool! It’s nice to ‘meet’ you 😉 I can’t wait to try some of your recipes here on the blog, they all look amazing.
All the best to you and be in touch!
Much love,
Sarah B
Hi Sarah,
It’s great to connect with you! I adore your recipes from both this year’s and last year’s Action Plans, they’re so imaginative and beautiful. I hope we get to work on another project together some time in the future. Thanks for stopping by, all good wishes to you in 2013!
I’m so into jucing right now so this is GREAT!!!

Doing the 2013 de-tox. Is the menu planned for specific nutrional value or to keep from getting boring?
Thanks
Hi Sandy,
The Action Plan is a detox regimen. The way it works is that the first week, all foods that could possibly tax your system are taken out, then in Weeks 2 and 3 more foods are added back in, so you can see how your body reacts. You can read a full description of the plan works, here: http://bit.ly/UNI9te. Of course we do our best to make the menus varied and delicious!
I am so saddened to hear that this is the last issue of Whole Living 🙁 My boyfriend and I are currently in day 6 of the 21 day cleanse and I have got to say we are so impressed! Louisa we are so looking forward to week 3 and your delicious recipes!!! So many delicious wholesome foods in so many new variations, thank you, thank you Louisa and Whole Living!
Hi Kelley,
I know, there’s no other mag out there like Whole Living. The editors worked really hard to make it good, and hopefully all the positive comments like yours will reach them. Thanks for stopping by, I dig the naturally sweetened dessert recipes on your site!
OMG I had Mo idea Whole Living was going away. I am a subscriber and I have not heard a thing. I do hope you are wrong. It is my favorite magazine. I was going to start the Action Plan for the first time on Monday.
Hi,
I just finished the 21 day detox and lost 19 pounds and 15.5 inches! The receipes changed my life!!
About Whole Living, I thought they were just going to be an e-zine…I will be crushed if they don’t keep putting out new material! Sad day!

Here is from their website:
Thank you for your interest in Whole Living. We have decided to change the way we distribute the content of Whole Living. The January/February issue will be the last Whole Living magazine published. Going forward, we plan to incorporate Whole Living’s content into our other titles and platforms. We encourage you to visit us online and to sign up for our newsletters to continue to receive expert advice on health, fitness, beauty, balance and more. We also invite you to subscribe to Martha Stewart Living by clicking here.
It’s unfortunate that instead of offering subscribers the opportunity to switch to one of their other magazines, they threw us under the bus and sold our subscriptions to crappy, unhealthly, Family Circle magazine. It really upsets me to lose Whole Living and have it replaced with junk.
I agree with Sue. I have absolutely no interest in Family Circle magazine. How do we get out of this fiasco? I don’t want that magazine at all. There is nothing of interest to me in it. I want either something comparable to Whole Living or I want my money back for my subscription to June 2015!!!
Ugh. I LOVED this magazine. It was truly my favorite and there is nothing else out there like it. I used to love Cookie Magazine as well and I’m still hoarding back issues. Boo.
i heard about the cleanse from a good friend.. interested to do it……
Oh, I was looking for their January edition in the boookstore, and hoped it would be out next week. I haven’t completed their detoxes, but I had their Jan 2012 edition, and tried some of the recipes.
I love the cleanse-I’m half-way through this year; I also enjoyed it last year. The food is just delicious; highly intensive prep but worth it and I look forward to all of it. I want to share with friend but the website no longer has the details of the program. How can we continue to retrieve years 2012 & 2013?
Now that Whole Living / Body + Soul is gone, how about creating a 2015 Action Plan for us on your own? It was such a great start to the New Year and I know many of us miss it!
