DIY Fun at Readymade, + Tasty Trail Bar Video

Homemade moisturizer

I’m having way too much fun blogging and writing for ReadyMade magazine. In the printed magazine and on the website, they’ve given me a platform to write about all of the things that I like to make from scratch, from food to cosmetics.

A few months ago, I wrote about making your own Trail/Power Bars for the magazine. Power bars are a great snack, especially when they’re not overly processed or sugary. I often find myself making a big batch of them for my own home and gifting them to friends. To make the bars, you simply mix up all of the protein-rich goodies that you want in them—like nuts, dried fruits, and whole grains—and then bind them with a hot “glue” of melted ingredients that will firm up at room temperature. Because I’m always trying to explain how easy it is to make the bars, I decided to make a video that shows the process step-by-step:

DIY sugar/salt scrub

In addition to experimenting with making packaged food items from scratch, I’ve been doing the same with body care products. Here’s a wonderfully simple recipe for making your own rich body lotion, fresh and chemical-free. And if you really want your skin to be as soft and supple as it can be, why not treat yourself to a good buffing with this homemade sugar scrub?

I’ll be delving deeper into the world of handcrafted beauty and body care products, and writing about them here and on ReadyMade. If there’s a beauty item you’d like me to tackle—like hair conditioner, for example, which is probably next on my list—let me know.

  1. I adore DIY products. I have my own face scrub that I make. It's cheap and effective ^_^. I will try this one out too. I'm on the lookout for a good DIY moisturizer, but kinda scared as my skin is so sensitive.

    Love your blog!

  2. Hi TJ,

What lovely drawings on your site! I especially like the Tequila Banana one http://tjlubrano.blogspot.com/

Thanks for your comment. Feel free to tailor the moisturizer recipe with ingredients that are gentle on the skin, for example, you could add calendula ointment.

  3. Oooh you visited my blog 😀 How cool is that! Thanks so much! That little drawing is a fave of many! I will create more of her in the near future.

I will definitely try out the moisturizer recipe. Thanks for the tip!

    Have a lovely evening!
